We have a large soil shear box. It has a mechanical screw drive mechanism that can generate a lot of force. There are a couple of limit switches in both forward and reverse. However, one of these switches either failed or was not set right. The brass screw was overextended and completely damaged the thread beyond repair. There were brass shards everywhere.
A replacement screw was purchased and installed in the machine. It is kind of pain because it almost seems that the machine was built around that drive mechanism.
We have had to also go through most of the wiring and replace the serial port converter for data acquisition because of not being able to consistently read it.
